Title: A Revelation Journey

Age: 40

About Me:

I'm on a mission to change a view about children in foster care.  I don't know, maybe I'm not the only one with this view.

My view is that many children in foster care and who experience multiple changes in their lives during development, get stuck in developmental stages.  I've noticed this in my own daughter. I adopted my daughter through foster care.  She was placed in my home in 2004 and adoption was finalized in 2006.   She is 12 years old, but seeks attention like a 4 or 5 year old.

Until a few days ago none of my friends or family have ever voiced this same view.  When spending time with a friend the other day, the friend observed my daughter's behavior and need to have someone help her with everything.  Her comment was, “She has the needs of a toddler, it's like she  is stuck in developmental stages.”

It was so refreshing to be with someone who understands my daughter's needs.  Most people find out her age and say “She's too old to be doing that” or “She should have grown out of that by now”.

If I could just bring awareness to one person the need to see children individually instead in an age bracket, then it will be a good start to my mission.
